Hi Julie,
Great question! We're researching that too, and trying to find
solutions for online assignment submissions. I asked a similar question
to the ACCESS News listserv earlier in the year. I'll look for some of
those conversations and send you something if I can.
Here are the options I've heard from others and we've considered:
* Students use a scanner to scan their paper/pencil work and
submit an "electronic" paper.
* Students use the HTML math editor included in many CMS
programs like Moodle, Blackboard, etc.
* Some institutions use online proprietary solutions to complete
their math assignments like My Math Lab: http://www.mymathlab.com/
* Some institutions use publisher's online solutions like
McGraw-Hill's MathZone. http://mathzone.com This is the solution we've
decided on. It's going to cost more for the student, but McGraw-Hill
does a nice job of including videos, tutorials and a Flash or Java
enabled website for assignments.
I hope that helps! Blessings,

Subject: [ACCESS News] online math
We are going to hold our first online business math course in the fall.
The instructor asked me how she would see the process by which students
arrive at their answers not just the final answer. Does anyone have any
ideas on how to do this?
Thanks!

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone
who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you
have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
