[ACCESS News] faculty orientation

At PBA we use the eCollege learning management system.  The platform provides an instruction design tutorial and a student tutorial for each user with a professor profile.  New online faculty are asked to view and work through these tutorials prior to required training.
 
The platform incudes a Web conferencing tool called ClassLive Pro.  It is actually a version of Elluminate.  We require a six week, instructor lead, online certification course of all faculty desiring to teach completely online. In addition platform tool and online pedagogical training is also required.  In the past we have held face-to-face professional development workshops to satisfy this requirement since most online faculty were full-time on campus employees or local adjunct. With a increased number of "distance" faculty being hired we are in the process of creating a set of self-directed modules to meet this need.  Each module includes assessment items to validate mastery. 
 
eCollege also offers online certification courses through their educational department. A faculty member can also qualify for an "online" position by taking two of these required courses.  The price, however, is $450 a course so many faculty do not elect this option.  Regardless of the platform/pedagogy choice, they are still required to take the ClassLive Pro course.

Here is my question:  How many of the ACCESS institutions has a faculty orientation class, what does it "look" like, and how does that fit into the requirements to teach in your online program?
